Well, guess what? It’s not magic, even if it feels like it! I’ve been playing around with a clear, vinyl-esque film that’s super clingy – but in a good way. Specifically, I tried out Hugo’s Amazing Tape, Clearview Ruler’s ClearGrip, and Omnigrid’s Invisigrip.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape:
This stuff is fantastic! Picture this: a tape that’s two inches wide, perfect for wrapping around spools to prevent them from unraveling. It’s generously given, with a 50-foot roll priced at a steal of $12 or less. I’ve found it super handy, not just for threads but for bundling items together. Instead of twist-ties or elastics, I reach for Hugo’s – it’s a lifesaver for keeping my sewing tools and materials organized, especially when I’m on the move. ✨
ClearGrip & Invisigrip:
At first glance, these twinsies look and feel the same. Rolled out at 12-1/2″ wide and a yard long, their main mission is to make sure your cutting rulers, mats, and templates don’t slip and slide. The minor challenge? They come with a hefty backing paper that’s a bit stubborn. But, once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth sailing. In a side-by-side test, I noticed the Invisigrip has a slightly better grip, but honestly, it’s a minor difference. The most rewarding part? Those once “slippery” rulers are now tamed, making my quilting adventures way smoother.
But here’s a heads up – not everything’s a match made in heaven. I found that neither ClearGrip nor Invisigrip stuck well to Olfa rulers with frosted backs or the Olfa mats. On the flip side, they clung quite well to June Tailor mats with their glossy backs.
