Let’s dive into a fantastic discovery that’s about to change our quilting game! My buddy, Jeanne, showed me an article about the June Tailor’s Washable Colorfast Printer Fabric Sheets. She’d recently made a quilt with photos and wondered how cool it’d be to print these photos from the comfort of our homes. So she looked at me with those curious eyes and went, “Gina, what’s your take on this?”
After scratching my head for a bit, I exclaimed, “We have to try this out!”
You’d think it’d be a needle in a haystack, but lo and behold, Amazon had it! Plus, I stumbled upon two other June Tailor products. One was a printer fabric that called for dry cleaning, and the other was a photo transfer paper. My quilter’s instinct kicked in, making me think, “How does this new kid on the block stack up against the OGs?” So, I bagged all three!
The Great Quilt Test:
1. Photos: We all love adding photos to our memory quilts, right? So I decided to print both colored and grayscale photos.
2. Texts: Who doesn’t love to immortalize special texts on quilts? Think wedding invites or baby announcements.
3. Tiny Quilts: I thought of those adorable mini quilts featured in landscape quilts, like the ones flapping on a clothesline.
For the experiment, I used a quilt graphic from Electric Quilt 8 software (huge shoutout to them! ) and some lovely words from Microsoft Word. And to keep it super fair, I used the same design on all the products.
Putting June Tailor to the Test:
To be honest, the instructions seemed a tad bit basic. They just said “load one sheet” and “print on the fabric side”. A bit confused and wanting the best outcome, I rang up June Tailor’s Customer Support. The lovely lady on the line suggested I play around with the printer settings using regular paper until I found my perfect match. ️
So, I did exactly that! The fabric sheet sailed through the printer smoothly, resulting in beautifully printed color photos and a mini quilt. Though the fabric’s texture made the images a tad grainy compared to paper, the colors were spot on! However, an old grayscale picture of my dad and me was a bit of a letdown. It was fuzzier and less vibrant.
Double Trouble:
Being the resourceful gal I am, I thought, “Why not use the blank space on the fabric sheet and print again?” A quick call to Customer Support (they must recognize my number by now! ) reassured me that it was safe.
Finishing Touches:
After letting the ink sit and dry for a day, I carefully peeled off the backing. It was a tad bit tricky, but teamwork with my friend Charlie made it a breeze. I gave it a gentle rinse in cold water to seal the deal. The feel was a bit sticky, but it got better.
